Two 110-year-old fisherman’s shacks that inspired the remake of Storm Boy have been listed for sale.

Two isolated fishermen’s shacks that inspired the movie set of the 2019 remake of Storm Boy, have been listed for sale, sparking the imagination of lifestyle buyers.

The tiny homes at 10 and 11 Barker Knoll are two of only 10 shacks still in existence on the Murray Mouth, with a history dating back well over a century.

Today, the lifestyle and amenities haven’t changed much, with many of its original and rustic features still in place, including tin walls, raked timber ceilings and a window-lit hearth.

It’s no surprise the setting sparked the re-imagination of Australian family drama Storm Boy, which was filmed mere meters away in 2017.

“These shacks would have been around when the original Storm Boy movie was made, so they probably inspired the first movie but definitely inspired the remake with Geoffrey Rush because they modelled the (movie) shack on what is here and even used some of the furniture,” selling agent Alastair Johnson of Spence Dix and Co – Keith said.

“It was literally just a few hundred metres away from here that the movie set was made and then, of course when they were done, they tore it all down.”

Mr Johnson said the shacks were originally established some 110 years ago with the current owners having enjoyed the property as a family escape since the 1970s.

“It really is a slice of history. It’s rare to come by something like this,” he said.

“One of the tin walls is a flattened out 44 gallon drum, which was used because there was a steel shortage during WWI, and one of the bedroom ceilings is lime washed … it’s so quaint and rustic.”

Mr Johnson said the sale of the shacks was facilitated under a crown-lease arrangement, and was conditional on a greywater system being developed for the dwelling.

He said buyers also needed to be aware that the area was a no dog zone and shacks could not be leased out for commercial use, such as Airbnb.

“We’ve had a few people put off because they can’t bring dogs … but overall, interest has been good with offers over $200,000 invited,” he said.

“It’s a great property for people who love bird watching, fishing or artists and those chasing pure escapism.

“You can catch Mullet from your front door or you can walk 15 minutes for the best Mullo Way fishing in the state.”

Expression of interest close at noon on November 20.
