Hawkesbury River Getaway
Adventure in Bar Point, Central Coast, NSW, AU
I've spent years bypassing the Hawkesbury River Bridge on road trips and weekend getaways, and I never even thought of checking out what was around the corner from our backyard.
Dyarubbin on Bar Point is only accessible by boat, so the trip over via a water taxi is an adventure in itself. Arriving on your own private jetty, you are greeted with panoramic waterfront views of the river.
This is the perfect base for the adventurous or take-it-easy types. Watch boats cruise past from the open plan living room, chill by the fire out on the deck with a sundowner, or fish/swim/kayak all from your doorstep.
While you can access most nearby locations on the river by kayak, hiring your own tinny from Hawkesbury Water Taxis makes it even easier to explore. From meandering upriver to nearby Spencer village, finding secret swimming holes, or immersing yourself in nature up Pumpkin Point Creek, there's plenty to do while you're out on the water.
You'll only wish you stayed longer!...

Things We Did
- Boat
- Swim
- Kayak
There are plenty of nooks and crannies upriver from Bar Point. One of those is the quiet riverside town of Spencer. Grabbing a coffee seemed like the perfect excuse to go for a burn-in our tinny (thanks to Hawkesbury Water Taxi's) so we took off upstream watching the locals and their way of life on the river while meandering up the shoreline....
Jump in a kayak or tinny and only 100m away from Dyarubbin you'll find a sign on the shoreline which reads "Popran National Park". There's no real track to follow but if you are keen on a bush bash, uphill you'll find an old freshwater dam which you can swim in. This one was a highlight and feels like your own private swimming hole....
