Chris By the 1980s--when the movie was made--much better movies were made. This movie insists on filmography of the era depicted instead, early 20th century. Overly melodramatic orchestra, ill-written and ill-acted lines, as if put together by someone desperate for the plot line to move along. the crash scene near the end is truly B grade, like most of this oddball movie. The main plot is with merit but, execution is laughable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A little boy, PS, who's mother died in childbirth has been left with his working class Aunt Lila to be raised while his irresponsible father works in the outback. After several years, his wealthy Aunt Vanessa (Wendy Hughes) returns from Europe and demands joint custody, which she claims is what the boy's father wants. She bullies Lila into letting PS live with her during the week, but clearly wants full custody for herself ... perhaps as a ploy to renew her brief relationship with his father. A beautiful looking film that has a strange, feverish, melodramatic tone. The one downside is that it's ostensibly about PS, who is one of the least interesting characters in the film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member I watched this again tonight and was instantly captivated. This is a superb adaptation of a marvellous book with a great cast and script and sensitively directed by Carl Schultz. Nicholas Gledhill is wonderful as P.S. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member From the very first shot it's clear that cinematographer John Seale contributes enormously to the film's success. It's without doubt one of the most wonderfully photographed films of Australian cinema. Additionally, with no overreaching or caricatures in its portrayals, it's a simply told drama, but one filled with subtle complexities. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review dave j Friday, October 29, 2010 (1983) Careful, He Might Hear You DRAMA The winner of 8 Awards Austrailian Awards including Best Picture- i have no idea why! Uninvolving and through the eyes of an 8 year old nicknamed P.S. about two sisters bickering over full custodian over him after losing his real mother and being ambandoned by his actual irresponsible father. The story takes place during the 1930's with two aunt's, one who the young boy has built the most rapport with, who has depleting health with a husband whose out of the job and the other as the very wealthy and healthy single aunt whose proper! The young boy prefers to live with the poor aunt despite health and financial issues because he build the most rapport with as opposed to the well groomed aunt who is very privilaged- all I can say is that if we can all be this lucky and this film fails to convince "I" as an audience otherwise! Another major problem is that this film doesn't quite explore all the other options such as a buy out if the wealthy aunt wanted custody of PS that much! Not good enough! 2 out of 4 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member i actually really liked it...super eerie & i wanted to punch half the people in the face. also i kept thinking they were calling him pierce not PS. the boys so loveable. super entertaining not knowing whats gonna happen,i wish his dad wouldve came back at the end.
