Alan Sepinwall Rolling Stone For now, at least, Picard seems to be doing its best to hearken back to the way its title character’s stories used to be told, while blending that with this more modern approach. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 3, 2022 Full Review Christian Blauvelt indieWire The thing about those bad first seasons of “Trek” shows? They’re always the precursor to a startling turnaround. Sometimes that uptick happens in Season 2, sometimes later. “Picard” has already made it so. Rated: A- Mar 3, 2022 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com While seeing Stewart at the helm is in some respects reward enough, the producers rely a bit too heavily on that goodwill with a season that, three hours in, feels as if it's barely gotten out of drydock. Mar 3, 2022 Full Review Aaron Phillips But Why Tho? A Geek Community Picard Season 2 is continues the precedent of laying down a fantastic narrative through the use compelling and captivating characters. The set design is meticulous, and the visuals are stunning. Rated: 8.5/10 Jan 23, 2023 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard ups the action and delivers a solid Star Trek storyline. Rated: 4/5 May 10, 2022 Full Review Jessie Gender Jessie Gender YouTube Channel While it starts strong, and it's focus on recontextualizing trauma remains earnestly admirable, the season ultimately doesn't have enough story to propel its 10-hour runtime, leading to meandering plots that rely more on nostalgia then storytelling. Orladdin C The first season was passable, if flawed. This second season, however, is absolute gorn-spew. Almost the entire season takes place on contemporary earth. The costumes look cheap and the dialogue is flat. They gave Picard some kind of sad childhood backstory that we've never heard of and it felt forced. The worst thing, though, is the laziness of the writing: [Begin Spoilers] They massively retcon one of the most consistent details in Star Trek (how Borg assimilation works) just so characters could steal information from the Borg queen, then later in the season it's revealed off-handedly that the ship they've been on (with the Borg queen) can just replicate anyone who has ever been aboard as a hologram with all of that person's skills, personality and knowledge. They could have just gotten the info from the ship's reconstruction of the Borg queen without the nonsense retcon! Nevermind how overpowered a ship with that capability would be going forward. [End Spoilers] I'd say take a pass on this season. If you're a Trekkie, it'll just make you mad. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review James Z Can I give this negative stars? The only resdeeming quality of Picard Seasons 1 and 2 is that they are retconned into a fever dream by season 3. Thank you for season 3. But seasons 1 and 2 should have every copy burned to ash. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Audience Member Hey uhhhh.... our Picard show is getting savaged by the fans HEY LOOK IT'S Q. REMEMBER Q! FROM STAR TREK! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review David S Very much an attempt to turn a science fiction mainstay into a convoluted soap opera. The writing is very weak, no humor and, worse, the forced chemistry between characters. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/24 Full Review Mihaly C This season has some writing problems. And probably it was hard to write and film, with all the show-runner changes in the background and dealing with COVID imposed restriction. In the middle of the season there are like 3 or 4 episodes where it is like the second half of one episode and the first half of the next is making a true episode. Like the end cut come to late or to early, depending on how you look at it. Still, it is enjoyable as a Star trek fan as it has a lot of connections to pas series especially TOS and TNG. And it leaves a lot of questions to answer in the future of Star Trek, like what is that transwarp hub opening, what will happen with the Jurati-collective,I want to know more about the Travelers and the Supervisors ... And with all the frustrations of the season there are 4 really amazing episodes, and the hug between JL and Q at the end is precious. So yeah, watch it, and even binge-watch it if you can because it is better that way. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review James B I'm sorry - what was this supposed to be? A Marvel comic film? A rehash of The Voyage Home? Either way, it wreaks of a production team so bereaved of ideas that the sight of Sarah Jessica Parker's head attached to the body of a Jack Russell in "Mars Attacks" might as well stand as an all-encompassing advertisement for the sci-fi genre.
