Good day ladies and gentlemen, first and foremost let me introduce myself.

My name is Divia Lee and thank you all for being here to listen to me speak about my topic-Beauty is more than skin deep. 10 minutes is not much of time so I will try my best to keep you all amused. How many of us care about how we look like to others? I know I do, but why? What is the true point of altering the way we look, is it just to impress everyone else? So now, my fellow friends, I am here to emphasize that looks arent just everything. Beauty is more than skin deep refers to the fact that one can be beautiful at the outside and yet be nice inside and vice versa. A person can be beautiful outwardly and yet be beautiful on the inside what has beneath is what actually makes a person. Imagine walking into a new school or a new job, and you see two people, a beautiful woman and a friendly looking plain man who is not so attractive. The woman will look appealing to whoever enters the room as she is the one who appears to be more attractive, but not even wanting to know this man and choosing to talk to the woman is norm to everyone. But on the other hand, have we ever taken into consideration the inner beauty of a person, which is of course the core character of oneself. Hence, beauty is more than skin deep. What really makes a person beautiful is the innermost spirit of the person. We take everyone at face value, judging by their painted face, flawless skin, dressing and so forth. The media portrays beautiful, sexy women and handsome men and this has an impact on the overall society. Is this why women and men likewise these days will do whatever it takes to change the looks of their body? Ever since the beginning of time, when caveman roamed the earth, blondes would be the distinct differing from their brown haired peers, moving on to the Victorians who wore incredibly lavish long dresses to the Georgians who took pride in their white skin and enormous hairdos, the bigger the more the women had to spend. In many countries, most girls under the age of 18 are already into having plastic surgery (such as breast implants, liposuction and nose rhinoplasty) notably for being inferior in looks to their peers and changing whatever they could in order to fit in. But even then, some of these girls were still not accepted surely theres something wrong here? No matter how much you change yourself based on appearances, its usually personality which shines through. For example, some girls excessively rely on their beauty. They are so vain, that they tend to forget that it is not just the outer looks but beauty has to come from within as well and that makes a beautiful person indeed. Beauty is nothing, if one is not compassionate, caring,

loving, kind and full of humanity, not only to mankind but all creatures as well. Some think that beauty can ensure them future happy life. They do not care to gain knowledge, to practice domestic skills, as well as to develop interpersonal skills and to improve themselves with good characteristics. Ladies and gentlemen, here is something I wish to share with you all. One morning not long ago, there were a few people at the bus stop. There were a few of them who were very well dressed and painted, all set to go to work. Apparently, it had rained earlier and it was muddy. Along came an old man who also wanted to board the bus. While walking towards this bus stop, he stumbled and fell down. He was all muddy and wet. None of them came forward to help lift this poor old man up. Amongst them, there was a young woman who was attractive and demure who came forward to lift this old man up. The old man clung to her for support. She was all messed up and yet she was gentle and kind with full of compassion towards this old man. So now, what do you people think of this? She is really beautiful outwardly and yet the inner self. In conclusion, beauty is more than skin deep when one acquires the beauty of the inner self. Someone can be beautiful on the inside as much as they can on the outside. Just think of the qualities that make someone good that are not physical. Are they caring, compassionate, helpful, generous; do they go out of their way to help others, do they give 100% in everything they do, are they intelligent, speak kindly of/to others, do they only look for the good in others, etc.? There are a lot of qualities that can make someone beautiful on the inside; it is not only the physical attraction on the outside.
