Japan has won the East Asian Cup for the first time after defeating host nation South Korea 2-1 in the final match of the tournament here on Sunday.
Yoichiro Kakitani opened the scoring in the first half, before Yun Il-lok levelled before the interval.
The Japanese snatched victory in the opening minute of stoppage time when Kakatani stuck again.
Japan finished with seven points from its two wins over South Korea and Australia, having drawn with China. The Chinese finished runners up after defeating Australia 4-3 earlier in the day. South Korea had a disappointing tournament, failing to win a match and playing out scoreless draws with both Australia and China.
The Socceroos finished bottom of the four-team competition.
