Further Information

Acoustic Research Model AR-LST Speakers. CIRCA 1972 & top of the model line up. Simply a fantastic pair of vintage cult classics up for offer.

All drivers in excellent original condition. Woofers recently refurbished with in spec foams by “Brisbane Speaker Repair” while “Speaker bug” performed internal component service including the replacement of two capacitors only.  These speakers are in very nice overall original condition. Timber cabinets present exceptionally well with only minor surface flaws. All cabinet edges are excellent. Fabric has mild discolouration but very nice condition for age. Refurbished with the intent to keep these speakers in the best original condition as tribute to their heritage & rarity.

As these speakers weigh 40kg each I would prefer to sell locally in SE Qld but can arrange Australia wide shipping, with professional packaging by Pack and Send. (Quote can be supplied in advance if required.)

Demo is available at Tennyson (4105 Qld).

More info and specs below:

The Acoustic Research Laboratory Standard Transducer (AR-LST) is designed for those laboratory and commercial applications that require conveniently repeatable, accurately known spectral energy profiles, including one flat profile extending from 30Hz to 20 kHz. The AR LST uses a 12” acoustic suspension woofer, four 1 1/2-inch mid-range hemispherical radiators and four 3/4 inch hemispherical tweeters. Acoustic Research´s LST speaker system was the company´s most advanced speaker system. Most striking are the LST´s angled sides, differentiating this pair from all other AR speakers*.   The AR-LST uses the same drivers as the AR-3a. Not only is each speaker equipped with the 3a´s 12 inch woofer, but with four of its midrange speakers and four of its tweeters and has therefor a significantly higher power handling capability. The LST´s output energy can be controlled with a rotary switch on the front panel, allowing six different energy levels or Spectral Energy Profiles. (*An AR-LST 2 was launched later in the 70’s and used the same cabinet design but had a 10’ woofer and a lower number of mids & tweeters.) Lots of reviews of the AR- LST on line.
