If you have traveled much in the South or Southwest, you might have seen the old white cargo van in an open lot with “Velvet Paintings” leaning against the side of the vehicle.

Mexico was the center of velvet painting in the 1970s. Velvet paintings were mass-produced by hand and that fueled the boom in velvet paintings in the 1970s in the United States.
