Colin is an Oxfam ambassador on trade and is a director of Progresso, the fair trade coffee shops.

He is best known as a film, television and stage actor, gaining wide public attention whenh he portrayed Mr Darcy in the 1995 BBC1 adaption of Pride and Prejudice. His first film was Another Country and he achieved worldwide stardom in Bridget Jones's Diary. His other films include The English Patient, Fever Pitch, Shakespeare in Love, The Importance of Being Earnest, Love Actually, Girl with a Pearl Earring and Mamma Mia!

He is married to Livia Giuggioli, a documentary producer who has opened the first ecological and ethical store in London, called Eco.

Livia began her career in film working as a production coordinator and assistant to Italian producer Fernando Ghia on the film The Mission in 1986. In 2006, she founded Nana Productions with her husband. Their first project was In Prison My Whole Life.
