Men's Summer Style Guide
1. Short-Sleeve Shirt
2. Long-Sleeve Shirt
3. Polo Top
4. Casual Short
5. Swim Short
6. Chino Pant
With fewer layers to contend with, summer dressing might seem an easy task but, in reality, it can be challenging to look sharp, and feel comfortable, when the heat is on.
In this visual guide to summer style, we answer common questions (‘Which fabrics best handle humidity?’, ‘Can I still get away with long pants?’, ‘Should I tuck my top?’) and introduce the six key pieces every man needs this season.
Styling:
The Short Sleeve Shirt
With Shorts:
The short-sleeved shirt is your ideal substitute for a T-shirt on smarter occasions or simply when you want to feel ‘dressed’. Printed shirts are easy because they lend so much personality and require little styling. Keep the rest simple, as shown here with our fern-print shirt and pale grey short. If you’re new to prints, start with one to two colours - we suggest versatile blues and greens - that will work with what you already own.
With Pants:
Yes, you can still wear pants in summertime. In fact, long layers in lightweight fabrics, such as a breathable cotton twill chino, help shield skin from the sun, keeping you cool and comfortable all day. For a smart-casual look that possesses a playful charm, mix tailored chinos with a modern spin on the tropical print and finish with a clean white sneaker.
With Swim Shorts
Found: the perfect beach to (burger) bar outfit, in head-to-toe natural fibres. Styling a linen shirt with a pair of playful, patterned board shorts gives traditional swim attire a longer life in your regular day rotation. Beyond the beach, button your shirt to the base to make the look feel intentional, rather than a post-swim cover-up.
Styling:
The Long-Sleeve Shirt
With Pants:
If you prefer to stay covered through the season, long layers are a smart choice. Opting for light colours, such as pale grey, sage green, white and chambray blue, will attract and absorb less heat while keeping you on-point for the season.
With Swim Shorts:
The new sunset shades are surprisingly wearable for men as well as women. Case in point: our apricot linen shirt styled with blue micro-check swim trunks. This pleasing clash of warm and cool tones work to energise and balance each other. A happy medium between pink and orange, apricot lends character to all your neutrals, without announcing to the world “I’m wearing colour”.
With Casual Shorts:
When it’s hot, the last thing you want to do is tuck your shirt. We hear you. The right cut makes all the difference. Here our tailored-fit, French linen shirt hangs loose over cotton-linen shorts, the fine-textured stripe and tapered waist still feels relaxed but not sloppy. Your perfect smart-casual option for a family barbecue or late-afternoon drinks.
Styling:
The Polo Shirt
With Swim Shorts:
With its soft collar and substantial yet breathable pique weave, our cotton marle polo has an air of formality that instantly levels up ultra-casual swim shorts, creating an easy weekend ensemble you can wear in and out of the water. For timeless polish, choose solid-hued polos in grey, green or blue that will work with all the colours in your current line-up.
With Pants:
The short-sleeved polo and regular chino is a classic pairing you can rely on to see you through most occasions. A proper-fitting polo (slim, not snug) in a non-sporty colour shows that you’re stylish but not stuffy. To relax this look, we cuffed the legs and added white sneakers.
With Casual Shorts:
A breezy short is just the ticket for casual summer settings. Ours is cut from yarn-dyed, cotton-rich twill weave giving it a luxurious texture that’s soft to the touch. Cut for an eased fit and polished up with belt loops and a back yoke, this short is a perfect match for our pique cotton polo - this soft green marle will complement a range of hair tones, especially grey and silver.
