Fiat X1/9 Abarth Prototipo, 1973. A rally version of the mid-engined X1/9 powered by a DOHC 1756cc 4 cylinder engine capable of producing 170hp. Bertone made 5 prototypes with various engine variations including one with a 16 valve head and one with fuel injection. The cars competed in the prototype class in numerous rallies during 1974. Fiat’s Rally Competition department had begun to homologate the car for WRC Group 4 competition which would have included the need to made a number of road-going versions. However Fiat’s management decided to switch their rally campaign to the Fiat 131 instead and the X1/9 project was abandoned
