Back to nature
Crazy House is a special project, built on an area of nearly 2.000 square meters, including houses, guest houses, cafes, art galleries… The architecture of the building is different from that of the old. common works in Vietnam and the world. Since its inception, this building has been recognized for its unique architecture and is the most bizarre building in Vietnam, mentioned in tourist guidebooks and ranked in the top 2 strangest buildings in the world. as voted by the French magazine Peoples Daily.
Crazy House is built based on the design idea of bringing people back to nature. The work is developed on the shapes created by curves and free planes, not subject to the usual principle of cubic layout by straight lines and planes. In particular, this place also uses open spaces on four sides of the room to create richness for the view. Here, one can think of architectural spaces, traffic routes as forests, caves, rocky mountains, tree stumps, animals... All are unusual and create an amazing impression.
The owner of the project is Doctor, architect Dang Viet Nga. After graduating with a doctorate in the Soviet Union, she returned to Vietnam in 1972 and worked in Hanoi. She moved to live and work in Da Lat in 1980. With the love of Dalat, she decided to live here for the rest of her life. Crazy House was born out of her passion for architectural art creation, expressing her dream of contributing something to Da Lat. Dang Viet Nga is the person who directly designed and directed the construction of this project from 1990 to 2010. The project is designed as a house of the owner, combined with a hotel for guests to rent rooms. , and is also a fascinating attraction.
Experiences unforgettable
Starting the tour, visitors pass through a gate designed like a cave leading to architectural blocks connected by special traffic routes. There are 4 main architectural blocks, each block has a different appearance but all have the common characteristic of… weird, arranged mixed with green gardens. Everything is a complex like a maze, but meticulous in details. This expressive architectural complex has up to 100 roofs and dozens of spaces, corridors, stairs, porches, halls... not the same, not repeating. All express creative inspiration based on nature.
When visiting, visitors go from one surprise to another. Sometimes walking on the open corridor, I get into a dark, mysterious space. When climbing on the stairs, all of them suddenly brightened because they were on the roof, or at an "intersection" that tourists did not know which way to turn. When traveling, visitors constantly encounter stumps, ancient tree branches, stone slabs, bizarre windows or human statues, animal statues, giant spider webs... Exploring this building is also a physical challenge. strength and courage with visitors because there are very high stairs, precarious and not for the faint of heart.
There are 3 designated spaces in Crazy House. These are the Garden of Heaven, the Garden of Eden and the Garden of the Aquarium. Each space has its own idea and expression according to the name. In this architectural complex, there are also 2 giant concrete stumps, which are the Tree stump Hotel and the Spider Web Castle. This is a resort with 10 rooms designed as comfortable as a hotel. Each room has a different shape and interior, named after the decoration idea, such as Gourd room, Kangaroo room, Bear room, Monkey room, Bee room… Visitors will have a special experience when staying in these rooms. this room. Here, it can feel like being in a cave where the jungle is prehistoric and at night you can see the starry sky.
Crazy House is also the residence of the owner. Except for the bedroom, visitors can visit the living area with a living room, a memorial room for late General Secretary Truong Chinh (father of architect Dang Viet Nga), a room to store memories - memories, a gallery of art works. If there is a chance, visitors can chat with the owner to understand more about this special work, as well as her love of nature and Da Lat.
There is a simile that, Da Lat is a miniature "European architecture museum", because many ancient architectural works are valuable over the years. Crazy House, although not an ancient building, is probably also an interesting and "unique" "artifact" of that museum. Currently, every year, Crazy House welcomes about 100.000 visitors to visit, is an attractive destination of the city of thousands of pine.
