Pomeranz honoured in Winton’s Walk of Fame

This morning, legendary Australian film critic, producer and television personality, Margaret Pomeranz AM was honoured with a permanent tribute on the Walk of Fame as part of the fourth annual Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival, in the small town of Winton in the heart of Queensland’s Outback.

On reveal of the star on Winton’s footpath, Margaret Pomeranz AM exclaimed “It’s gorgeous! Thank you so much. I am genuinely touched by this.  It’s an absolute honour. I will forever have a connection with this experience”.

Winton’s Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival, aka “Outback Hollywood” has begun its nine day exploration into Australian film, with Pomeranz beginning her outback odyssey through locations around Winton made famous in Ivan Sen’s feature films “Goldstone” and “Mystery Road” and “The Proposition”, directed by John Hillcoat and written by screenwriter and musician Nick Cave.

Her first visit to Winton, Pomeranz has been moved by the sheer distance and far horizons of this tiny town whose ancient landscapes have inspired many a film maker and writer.

The year’s festival program features over 30 films, fifty percent of which are written, directed and/or star women in a prominent, independent role. “We’ve specifically identified films that pass the Bechdel Test. During the festival we don’t just screen films” explained the festival’s Creative Director, Dr Greg Dolgopolov. “The intensive nine day program features a number of events with special guests, live music entertainment, free kids club and an immersive writers program”.

Special guests to the festival include Australian film directors and writers including Sally Aitken, Director, “David Stratton – A Cinematic Life”, Edwina Exton co-writer of “Spin Out” , Sam Lang, Director of “ The Well” making its 20th anniversary screening in Cannes and Megan Riakos, Writer/Director of “Crushed”.

“The Festival is a not-for-profit incorporated association of local Winton representatives and film industry professionals keen to keep the spirit of Australian film and culture alive in the bush” said Festival Director Melrose.
