Season two of Netflix's Outer Banks gave fans a mid-summer binge-watch boost to kick off August. It's no surprise the series immediately skyrocketed to number one on the streaming service with the new episodes and many new faces, including Carol Sutton.

ICYMI, the action-packed drama includes plenty of twists and surprising turns as a group of Outer Banks teens find themselves in the middle of a storied treasure hunt, multiple murders, and much more. The ongoing conflict between the wealthy Kooks and the working-class Pogues led by John B. and his close friends is ever-entertaining.

And, all the actors are pretty interesting IRL as well. There's the very real romance between Madelyn Cline (Sarah) and Chase Stokes (John B.). There's also a new character, Mee-Maw, played by Carol Sutton, who has an impressive off-screen story of her own.

Carol's character is introduced in season two.

That's when viewers see Pope's own family history become a key plot point. Pope's sleuthing brings him to his Mee-Maw, who lives in an assisted living community. Just as Mee-Maw is about to reveal a deep, dark family secret, the episode cut to a black screen that read, "In Loving Memory of Carol Sutton."

But, Carol was best known for her work on stage in New Orleans, according to New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell's tweets.

"Carol Sutton was practically the Queen of New Orleans theater, having graced the stages across the city for decades. The world may recognize her from her performances in movies and on TV—whether it's 'Treme' or 'Claws,' or 'Runaway Jury' or 'Queen Sugar'," Cantrell wrote.

"But we will always remember her commanding stage presence, her richly portrayed characters, and the warm heart she shared with her fellow cast and crew in productions such as '4000 Miles' and 'A Raisin in the Sun.' May she rest in God's perfect peace."
