Fast food changes

Licensee Steve Leddin, who also owned McDonalds in Gundagai and Tumut, came to an agreement with McDonalds to end the contract, according to a McDonalds’ spokeswoman.

Mr Leddin will not be licensee at any of his three stores.

The spokeswoman said the store would be open as normal and all staff would stay on.

She said McDonalds was talking with several other licensees from around the region to find a new owner.

The Yass franchise was listed on the NSW Food Authority’s ‘name and shame’ register on Tuesday.

The restaurant was ordered to pay $880 for failing “to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness”.

The offence allegedly happened on June 29 and Yass Valley Council issued the penalty notice on July 5.

“This sends a clear message that businesses, regardless of how big or small, will not escape being publicly named if they fail to comply with food safety regulations," Primary Industries Minister Katrina Hodgkinson said.

“The public has the right to know who the offenders are, especially when the majority of restaurants and retailers do meet the high food standards required in this state."

McDonalds said the problems had been dealt with.

“Following the cleanliness issue it was really quickly rectified. We did an internal audit.”

The spokeswoman said McDonalds had a letter from Yass Valley Council confirming that everything looked great.

She said things were now all “ship shape”.

“We would love for people to come in and give it another try.”
