A large bovid that is covered with grizzled-gray to brownish-gray fur. The undercoat is thick and woolly and is covered by black guard hairs that are longer and more coarse. The male has a short, semi-erect mane. Limbs are light brown or tan. Ventral aspect of throat is generally white and the undersides are pale-grey to white.

Common in Karbi Plateau (Karbi-Anglong), Barail Range (Cachar and Dima Hasao district). Also found in Patkai foothills of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh district.
