Life can get really busy. If you're like us, you're always looking for opportunities to make the most of your time as a family, connect with friends, or meet new people. We are looking forward to an evening of fall fun and fellowship! Join us for Oktoberfest, on Saturday, October 28th, a fun and festive community event benefitting the La Plata County Humane Society immediately following the 5pm family Mass in the park. After feedback from many parents, the consensus was that it feels important to model giving and abundance and God's love to our children by showing love to our community. In honor of St. Francis and his message of peace for all of God's Creation, we are happy to support this cause. The need has never been greater for the Humane Society, as numbers of homeless animals continue to rise in our region. A cozy evening of pumpkin carving + painting, fall fare, and community. Volunteer opportunities available HERE Food and drink tickets can be purchased HERE. Help us plan ahead by purchasing online, it’s quick and easy. Grownups will be grilling brats and hot dogs. Craft beer, cider, and wine will be offered for a suggested $5 donation. Middle school students will be hosting a bake sale and selling handmade goods. Special (adoptable) guests from LPCHS! GIFT (Growing in Faith Together) activities for the whole family to enjoy! Proceeds will benefit the La Plata County Humane Society We would love to see our young alumni high school students, older siblings, and former teachers and staff! We will have tables reserved for these guests to carve pumpkins and catch up on post St. Columba life. Spread the word!

THE PRESCHOOL CORNER St. Columba Montessori Preschool will be holding free faith based parenting workshops each month. All are welcome! The Art of Inner Discipline - October 16th at 5:00 Presented by Sherry Herrin, Director of St. Columba Montessori What does supporting the development of your child’s inner discipline look like in practice, both in the classroom and at home? It means discipline isn’t about taking away something; it’s about repeatedly teaching the child what to do instead as well as illustrating the natural consequences of actions. We’ll be focusing on self-esteem and it’s importance in developing healthy children. Parents will have an opportunity to look at their own self-esteem and discuss ways to foster positive self-esteem.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FR. KEVIN PROVIDES WEEKLY SCRIPTURE REFLECTION QUESTIONS TO HELP INDIVIDUALS ENRICH THEIR FAITH BY CONTEMPLATING SUNDAY READINGS.

Based on the readings for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Readings: 25:6-10a/Phil 4:12-14, 19-20/Mt 22:1-14 or 22:1-10 (142) Pss IV

“He will destroy the veil the veils all people, the web that is woven over all nations.” How have you experienced this veil or web in your own life? What is it that you would like to clarify in your life? What are the questions you would ask of God if you met him today? The Philippians have shared resources with St. Paul, sending something for his needs. He encourages them by acknowledging the gift, and reminding them that God will provide for their needs also. When was the last time you became truly aware of a point at which God was providing for your need? The king in today’s parable, by opening the invitation to the wedding feast to those on the roads and public squares, commits what in that culture most would consider social suicide. Those one chooses to associate with determine one’s social standing. The elite have rejected the king, but the marginalized respond positively. How have you in your life imitated the king’s behavior? How have you been welcoming and gracious to those who could not repay you?
