Tomorrowland festival announces details on digital experience

The party will go on, after all.

Tomorrowland 2020 — the mega Belgian festival that unites revelers from all around the world — was canceled in April due to the coronavirus crisis. But on Thursday morning, the electronic dance music blowout got a new life and a new location — in cyberspace.

Tomorrowland Around the World will bring the party to your pad with a digital experience on July 25 and 26 — the second of the two sold-out weekends that the festival was originally scheduled to take place. You can gain entry to the interactive festivities at Tomorrowland’s website with a PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet.

Day passes start at about $14 and go on sale June 18. Festivities kick off at 9 a.m. on July 25.

Every other major festival, including Burning Man and Ultra Music Festival cancelled or postponed their events this year. Organizers of Coachella postponed the annual gig till October, but even that seems unlikely now. But many are finding creative ways to entertain their fans from afar. Burning Man Project, for example, has launched a platform called Kindling for virtual experiences.

Eight different stages will comprise Tomorrowland Around the World, including Atmosphere, Core, Freedom Stage and Elixir, plus other stages with 3-D design. The theme for the Main Stage will be “The Reflection of Love — Chapter 1.”

Festival-goers can expect to get the usual visual bang with laser shows and fireworks. Meanwhile, the lineup of artists covering the global dance floor of EDM will be announced on June 15.

“Since we started this project and all ideas came together, we immediately felt an enormous energy and lots of positivity from everybody involved,” said Michiel Beers, co-founder of Tomorrowland. “For us, it’s a bit reinventing the festival experience, but we truly believe that we can bring the spirit of Tomorrowland and entertainment at the highest level to people and homes around the globe.”
