The Saturn System Through The Eyes Of Cassini Hardcover – Illustrated, March 22, 2018

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 38 ratings

The Saturn System Through The Eyes Of Cassini is printed in full-color on 70-pound paper.

The Cassini-Huygens mission has revolutionized our knowledge of the Saturn system and revealed surprising places in the solar system where life could potentially gain a foothold--bodies we call ocean worlds.

Since its arrival in 2004, Cassini-Huygens has been nothing short of a discovery machine, captivating us with data and images never before obtained with such detail and clarity. Cassini taught us that Saturn is a far cry from a tranquil lone planet with delicate rings. Now, we know more about Saturn's chaotic, active, and powerful rings, and the storms that rage beneath. Images and data from Saturn's moons Titan and Enceladus hint at the possibility of life never before suspected. The rings of Saturn, its moons, and the planet itself offer irresistible and inexhaustible subjects for intense study. As the Cassini mission comes to a dramatic end with a fateful plunge into Saturn on Sept. 15, 2017, scientists are already dreaming of going back for further study.

I would agree with other reviewers that the print quality of this book is surprisingly poor.

The Saturn System is a pretty little book that provides an overview of the illustrious Cassini mission to Saturn, with surveys of the planet itself, the spacecraft, moons and rings. But if it's a detailed account with some good science that you're looking for, look somewhere else. This book is a very surface treatment of Cassini results. Good non-technical introduction, but not helpful in the details. The paper stock is not suited to the photos either, many of which are in black and white.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pictures are black & white, which is disappointing

A book like this, about a wonder of the solar system, needs to be in full colour! The book comes across as very cheaply made. Disappointed 😔

5.0 out of 5 stars La straordinaria missione Cassini.
Reviewed in Italy on January 3, 2024

Schade.
Druckqualität lässt auch zu wünschen übrig.
Vom Inhalt her sicherlich sehr interessant.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great images wasted!

Was very excited to see these images were going to be in print, but the paper and print quality is very poor - looks like someone took the pdf version and ran it through an OK but not great home printer. Good to see these images together but was hoping for much better.
