Rolleiflex' camera, original model, 1930. The Rolleiflex camera, introduced by Franke and Heidecke in 1928, was the first of the modern twin lens reflex (TLR) cameras and one of the most influential designs of the 20th century. Early TLR cameras were bulky to carry and cumbersome to use, and after about 1910 they had generally been displaced by single lens reflex designs. The Rolleiflex is a compact, precision-constructed all-metal camera, like the Leica.
