From the dust jacket: 'Ludwig Becker, though he went with Burke and Wills in 1860, has almost been forgotten. He is remembered, if at all, as an artist and naturalist who left some sketches of the disasterous undertaking before he himself perished on the journey north. Yet his letters, reports and illustrations are of historic importance and antiquarian charm. His word and his pictures are published here for the first time, complete and unabridged.'
This is an attractive book in good condition that contains author Marjorie Tipping's discussion of Becker, 'The Life and Work of Ludwig Becker' and the collection of his drawings and water-colours 'executed during the Victorian Exploring Expedition, 1860-61' held in the State Library of Victoria. Also included are Becker's letters and reports relating to the expedition.
