Fresh renderings of what the first Kia ute could look like have surfaced online, courtesy of Korean automotive design and spy shot website KKS Studio.
The vehicle in the image reportedly began as a Chevrolet Silverado but was morphed into a virtual Kia via computer-generated styling cues and badging to match.
It doesn’t look much like the previous Kia pick-up render we saw, based on the upcoming Kia Telluride large SUV… in fact it kinda looks better!
Kia Australia has said in the past that its first ute will be a direct rival for the top-sellers like the Toyota HiLux and will be available in a similar range of body and powertrain configurations.
It will be tuned locally like all Kia models here and could even arrive Down Under before the Hyundai ute on which it’s based.
“Work has begun,” Kia Motors Australia COO Damien Meredith told carsales previously. “We’re talking about a pick-up, dual-cab, single-cab. What we’ve requested is the full gambit of a ute, diesel and petrol.”
Development of both new Korean utes is now well underway, but neither is expected to appear before 2021.
