Default Mobil 1 oil filter question

Several weeks ago, I noticed that Walmart now sells M1 oil filters. I contacted Mobil 1 (via their website email) 3 weeks ago, and asked them if the filters sold at Walmart were the same as those sold in auto parts stores. The numbering system seems to be the same, but the box looks different, unless they updated the look of their box on all of their filters. Anyway, I never got a response or answer.

I think they updated their box. I remember thinking it looked different last month when I picked up one at Orielly's Auto Parts.

I would think that if they say Mobil 1 on them they would be fine.

Most any name brand oil filter you buy today for your LS engine will be ok.

Just don't make the mistake of using the "Franz" Oil Filter that uses a roll of replaceable toilet paper as a filter element .... BIG MISTAKE !

If you have an LS-3 motor, the UPF48-R's work well. Try Cultrag for them

This post shows the differences between the Mobil 1 filters (new & old). Basically, just more filter area on the newer version.

Those Mobile 1 filter sold in Wal-Mart are made by McDonalds. They just put them in a Mobile 1 box. McDonalds buys excess boxes and puts different things in them, then sells them to other stores.

The OP has gotten a lot of humorous responses, but really his question is legitimate. For instance, Home Depot sells Honda lawn mowers but they're not the same ones sold by lawn mower shops. And Lowe's sells TroyBilt mowers, but you can order one with a better engine straight from the manufacturer. So could be that Mobil sells inferior filters to Wal Mart ... I have no idea.

So you mean that you may get an oil filter from Wally World and there may be a big-Mac in the box ????....

WC: I remember people talking about them well over 50 years ago and how great they were. Even then, I thought WTF? Toilet paper? So they still make them? Common sense (right or wrong) tells me they would disintegrate rather quickly and run all through the engine, making a complete mess and ruining the engine, for lack of proper oiling.

What's the real deal on these?

Who knows what goes on today? However, an anecdote: Around 1970 I worked at the Bausch & Lomb frame center where they made Ray Bans.

They were very strict about us guys keeping inferior glasses, that they would not put on the market. They simply did not want them out there, and then getting the reputation that they were making inferior glasses.

(We did manage to get Ray Bans out once in a while anyway, one way or another, as it was pretty impossible to have complete control over, although if the guards saw a pair in your shirt pocket when you walked out, they would question you about them).

In the distant past, shortly after I graduated from high school, I worked for a lube & oil shop. I saw several of these filters come into that place. I never did understand them.

I dunno. If they used some of the toilet paper that they use in some of these gas station bathrooms they may just be onto something cause some of that stuff is so stiff it may hold up better than the best filter you can buy !!!!....lOL......
