This is an illustration of Pumpkin beetle Aulacophora hilaris (Boisduval) (Coleoptera:Chrysomelidae)
Order reference: pumpkin-beetle
This attractive insect lives its entire immature life underground emerging as the adult beetle to feed on leafy vegetables like pumpkins and zucchinis. Zecks attention to detail and knowledge of insects are evident in his portrait of the beetle and its young stages. The apical sections of the beetles legs with the bilobed penultimate segment, the number of antennal segments and the structure of the hind end of the larva are all accurate representations of the insects true form.
