Gannawarra Shire Council will continue to host Australian Citizenship ceremonies, with four events scheduled for 2023.

The schedule of ceremonies was approved at the November 2022 Council Meeting, with ceremonies scheduled for the following dates:

  • Thursday, 26 January
  • Tuesday, 4 April
  • Tuesday, 4 July
  • Tuesday, 3 October

“Council is honoured to host what is the final step in the journey to become an Australian citizen,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.

“An Australian Citizenship ceremony not only enables citizenship candidates to receive their Certificate of Australian Citizenship, it also fulfils the requirements under Australian citizenship law and provides an opportunity for Gannawarra Shire Council to officially welcome its new citizens.”

Citizenship ceremonies held on 26 January will coincide with Australia Day celebrations held across the Gannawarra, with one-off events to be held on the remaining dates scheduled for 2023.

“Previous Australian Citizenship ceremonies have ranged from large-scale celebrations and intimate gatherings to digital ceremonies, which occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic,,” Mayor Gillingham said.
