Sustainability has become a hot topic in recent years, with many people looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and live a greener life. However, for homeowners, the journey to sustainability can be challenging, especially when it comes to utility expenses. But one TikTok user, Ari (@arianna_danielson), is showing the world that sustainability can be both beautiful and achievable in her “Earthship” home.

What is an Earthship Home? An Earthship is a self-sufficient and passive solar bio-home made from recycled materials. Ari explained in a January 6 TikTok video that the walls of her Earthship are constructed from recycled tires, with the walls themselves made from a mix of earth and straw. The Earthship is off-grid, relying on solar panels on the roof to power the home, and it recycles water, which is used to water the plants.

How Does an Earthship Regulate Its Temperature?

Unlike traditional homes, Earthships don’t have a heating and cooling system. They regulate their own temperatures, thanks to their design. Ari’s Earthship is built below the frost line, and the windows are angled upwards, which allows the sun to keep the home warm in the winter. In the summer, built-in blinds help keep the house cool. Ari also mentioned that she has a propane fireplace in the front and a pellet stove in the back, both of which are efficient and clean. Despite the freezing temperatures outside, the temperature inside the Earthship remains a comfortable 71 degrees without any fireplaces turned on.

Why are Earthships Becoming More Popular?

Earthships have been around for decades, but they are becoming increasingly popular among those seeking a greener lifestyle. The fact that they are made from recycled materials and that they are self-sufficient and off-grid makes them an attractive option for eco-conscious homeowners. There are even companies that specialize in building Earthships from the ground up.

Ari plans to make another video to explain how she purchased her Earthship because they are said to be notoriously difficult to buy. However, with the growing demand for sustainable homes that don’t compromise on design, Earthships are definitely worth exploring.

If you’re looking to live a more sustainable lifestyle, consider an Earthship home. With their beauty and eco-friendliness, these homes are the perfect way to reduce your carbon footprint and live a greener life. Start your research today and take the first step towards a more sustainable future.
