What is an Earthship Home? An Earthship is a self-sufficient and passive solar bio-home made from recycled materials. Ari explained in a January 6 TikTok video that the walls of her Earthship are constructed from recycled tires, with the walls themselves made from a mix of earth and straw. The Earthship is off-grid, relying on solar panels on the roof to power the home, and it recycles water, which is used to water the plants.

How Does an Earthship Regulate Its Temperature?

Unlike traditional homes, Earthships don’t have a heating and cooling system. They regulate their own temperatures, thanks to their design. Ari’s Earthship is built below the frost line, and the windows are angled upwards, which allows the sun to keep the home warm in the winter. In the summer, built-in blinds help keep the house cool. Ari also mentioned that she has a propane fireplace in the front and a pellet stove in the back, both of which are efficient and clean. Despite the freezing temperatures outside, the temperature inside the Earthship remains a comfortable 71 degrees without any fireplaces turned on.
