It would appear that after their recent respective breakups, actors Lupita Nyong’o and Joshua Jackson have moved on—together. The two were spotted holding hands Wednesday in Joshua Tree amid rumors that they were more than just friends.
Oscar winner Nyong’o was linked to TV host Selema Masekela for about a year before their breakup, which she made public in October with an emotional Instagram post where she described herself as being “in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.” She didn’t call out Masekela by name. In November, she shared an ode to her friend Palmer Hefferan, thanking her for her support “when my life was turned upside-down from heartbreak.” The actor also recently shared a love song she made up for her cat.
Jackson, for his part, is in the midst of a divorce from actor Jodie Turner-Smith after four years of marriage. Turner-Smith cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed for divorce in October. The couple have a 3-year-old daughter, of whom they reportedly plan to share custody. The duo married in secret in August 2019, keeping their relationship low-profile so as not to distract from Turner-Smith’s rise in the acting world.
“Everything happened at the same time for me,” she explained in an interview with People earlier this year. “It was like, I fell in love right before I started this movie that would basically change my life [Queen & Slim], and then by the time I was putting this movie out I was pregnant, I was secretly married, and I was trying to have one moment and not let the other moment overshadow it, which is why I tried to keep it secret.”
Jackson, 45, and Nyong’o, 40, were first spotted together in October at a Janelle Monáe concert in Los Angeles with a group of friends. On Tuesday, the pair seemingly shopped at Los Angeles grocery store Erewhon together, exiting the store separately but later leaving together in a Tesla. Wednesday’s sighting, where the two wore sweats and beanies as they walked hand in hand in Joshua Tree, smiling, is the first public display of affection sighted for the rumored couple.
Representatives for Joshua Jackson and Lupita Nyong’o did not immediately return requests for comment.
