BangShift Submission Spotlight: John Tearle’s Aussie ’73 Falcon XB Coupe

BangShift Submission Spotlight: John Tearle’s Aussie ’73 Falcon XB Coupe

Last week we ran a spotlight on a cool Olds that was sent in to us after the owner say a virtual twin in one of our photo galleries. This week it’s John Tearle’s turn because Darryl Daniels couldn’t find the pics of John’s car in his Uraidla Picnic Cruise coverage. As we all know, the Aussies are nuts, and we love them for it. John’s ’73 Falcon XB  has got a built 351 Cleveland, backed by a 4-speed which we assume is a Ford Top Loader, and all runs back to a posi equipped 9-inch. It started out as a plane Jane 6 cylinder, but has turned into a cool daily driver hot rod. It runs on LPG (propane), and he says it’s a riot. We dig it for sure.

If you have a photo of your car, and a cool story to go with it, let us know. We just might pick it for a Submission Spotlight blog item. Click the Submit Content button at the top right of the site and you’ll be able to get us your story and info.

A pilot I worked for had a ’75 Fairmont in Texas that is a set of wheels away from looking just like that. Awesome!

Hey Chris, funnily enough we just sold a VC! Daughter’s boyfriend had a nice VC, bit hotted up – had a slant 6 with a 600 Holley 4 bbl but we swapped that off for a standard setup. Reminds me actually, I still have the slant 4 bbl manifold sitting around….

I wanted one of these cars a decade before I saw Mad Max @ age 15 , Ford’s XA , XB & XC Hardtops have the sweetest body lines I’ve ever seen , they were built to comfortably fit 265/60 15 inch rubber on the rear. I went through a lot of other Japanese & Australian made cars over the years , always watching & waiting to get my piece of an Australian Legend , & in 1996 I managed to score “the ducks guts” A street registered 1974 XB GS with a 4/71 GM blower sitting between the rocker covers , over the years the driveline was upgraded to a C6 & 3.89 LSD. A Cleveland may not rev like a Chev , but they can put out some mind numbing low mid & top end torque when boosted. 10MPH to 100MPH in ~10 seconds. I stuck XC sheetmetal on the front so that I can run the factory Cobra bonnet scoop & keep all the shiny bits hidden from the cops, so it doesn’t stand out as much as a Mad Max style blower setup would , the 3 exhaust inch pipes & 1:1 drive 4/71 blower is making boost @ 2000RPM & sends out a healthy omni directional low frequency thump ~30 meters around the car. People often comment how they felt the car coming before they actually saw it….now due to personal health problems Ferris sits quietly in my garage , I’d kill to be able mix up a fresh 120 litre batch of 20% Toluene 20% Xylene 60% Hi Octane unleaded + fill up the methanol injection system & take Ferris out for a drive again…..

Everyone should at one time in their life own or get get taken out for a drive in a cool looking 2 door muscle car powered by a blown small block. Just make sure it’s a Positive Displacement huffer & not one of those belt driven turbo charger’s they try to pass off as superchargers 🙂
