Native to Persia and Mesopotamia, the asafoetida plant is known for its pungent smell, earning it the nickname 'The Devil's Dung' or 'Stinking Gum'. It is often sold in powdered form as a spice or a condiment in Asian markets, and is often taken as a digestive aid to reduce flatulence.
