RMT964MB–William Herschel's 40 foot telescope, also known as the Great Forty Foot telescope, was a reflecting telescope constructed between 1785 and 1789 at Observatory House in Slough, England. It used a 47 inch diameter primary mirror with a 1,200 cm focal length. It was the largest telescope in the world for 50 years. It may have been used to discover Enceladus and Mimas, the 6th and 7th moons of Saturn. It was dismantled in 1840; today the original mirror and a 10 foot section of the tube remain.

RMKRD452–This is the first image of Saturn's ultraviolet aurora taken by the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) on board the Hubble Space Telescope in October 1997, when Saturn was a distance of 810 million miles (1.3 billion kilometers) from Earth. The new instrument, used as a camera, provides more than ten times the sensitivity of previous Hubble instruments in the ultraviolet. STIS images reveal exquisite detail never before seen in the spectacular auroral curtains of light that encircle Saturn s north and south poles and rise more than a thousand miles above the cloud tops. RM2WXE43T–Look out, Saturn! The competition for the best ringed planet is getting larger. This new image of Uranus from NASAWebb displays a prominent ring system. Also in view: a white polar cap at the right side of the planet, and two bright spots likely connected to storm activity. How can the polar cap be on the right, and not the top or bottom? It's because Uranus rotates at a nearly 90-degree angle from the plane of its orbit. This tilt makes Uranus appear to spin on its side. See a wider view: URL
